I have Shimano 105 shifters and rear derailer. Recently my shifting has become sluggish. When I shift, the derailer seems to shift part way (not engaged in any cog)then engages fully. What could be causing this?
Is your chain worn? Long time since cable lube\swap? nmcarpe_podium

It could be a worn chain or frayed cables. It could also be cables in need of lube (including the BB cable guide), or shift levers in need of a solvent sluice/lube. If the shifting is slow in only one direction, it may be as simple as a quarter to half turn on the adjusting barrel. Start with the adjuster, then lube the levers and cables. If none of this works, replace cables, and if that doesn't work, it's new shifters for you!
