Wide Bike Shoes and Pedalsdariow

Well, now that I bought my new Trek 5200 road bike, I need to pick out shoes and pedals. I have large and very wide feet. (13 5E)

I mainly want to ride distance and expect to do a lot of climbing.

While, I do not want the cheapest available, I also don't want to spend a grand on pedals and shoes either.

Sooooooooooooooo, what shoes and what pedals do you folks suggest? Email me or post your suggestions here.

I again thank you all for all of your help in picking out my bike.

I have 3E feet. Carnac are ok, but Sidi megawides fit real nice with no pressure points. Don't know how they might feel at 5E, maybe someone else could answer. I like Speedplay pedals, but that is just my preference. You might find some last year shoes at a discount.
Do you have access to many local bike shops?Spoiler

For shoes, especially a first pair of shoes, it's a lot more convenience to try them on at a shop. If they don't fit, you know right away and can try something else.
If you mail order them, you might wind up spending a ton of money and weeks of waiting on return shipping if it takes 3 or 4 tries to reorder a pair that fits.
Pedals seem to be like saddles and tires, everybody has their own personal favorites.

Look on ebay. Some guy in the UK regularly posts good deals on new ones.

For pedals I like Speedplay road but lately I've been loving speed play frog mountain bike pedals on my road bike. Light, good feel, and I can still walk. But there are tons of opinions on pedals. check the reviews.

big feet. big shoes.
