I recall reading that 9 speed Ergolevers can be upgraded to 10 speed by simply replacing a ratchet in the right side lever. Is this correct?

Also, what about the rear derailluer - will it handle the 10th gear?

Go to www.branfordbike.com for all the details. Yes, you can upgrade the right ergolever to 10 speed by replacing the ratchet. Branford has the parts (not very expensive) if you're inclined to do it yourself, or you can send it to them and they don't charge much for the service. They did the same upgrade for me and the turnaround time was pretty short.

The rear derailleur kinda depends, I believe. The geometry of the pre-2001 9 speed Campy derailleur was significantly different from the 10 speed derailleur geometry. If you have a post-2001 rear 9 spd derailleur, I believe it's just a matter of replacing the pulleys with narrower 10 speed pulleys.

If you have an older 9 spd rear derailleur, there may be a problem. It has enough throw to handle 10 cogs, but it requires a different amount of cable travel compared to the newer system. I'm not sure if it could be made to shift properly with a 10 speed cogset.

Check Branford's website and if that doesn't answer the qeustion call Tim at Branford. He knows everything there is to know about Campy conversions.
Replace the top C10 pulley only, tension pulley will be okay. nmSpunout

You will need the 10 spd cam for the extra gear. The cam is the part that is exposed when viewing the lever from upside down. The cost for the cam is ~$45. This is a job that is not too difficult to do yourself. However if your levers are due for an overhaul, then you might as well have your LBS due a complete overhaul and replace the g-springs (like bloody working on a watch) at the same time.

If you're already running full campy 9spd, any campy 9spd hub is 10spd compatible. So your next step to upgrade to 10spd is a new cogset and any campy 10 spd rear derailleur. Centaur/Daytona works great and many deals are easy to come by.
