STI Shifters: is it a Double, or is it a TRIPLE?(7 posts)

STI Shifters: is it a Double, or is it a TRIPLE?Stickers
May 3, 2003 9:56 AM
Hi, I purchased a double Shimano 105 Shifter/Lever set. When it arrived, the chainwheel shifter clicked twice. I already have a 105 triple shifter set, and the chainwheel shifter clicks twice. On another bike, the Dura-Ace double chainwheel shifter clicks once. Are the number of clicks enough to determine the type of shifter I have, or do I need to try it out on the bike I am building? I greatly appreciate comments/questions. Thank you, Jan

If it's 9 speed 105,it shifts a double or a triple.8 speed 105 fronts were double or tiple specific, with the triple being #1055T,under the hood.
Thank you! How about the number of clicks?Stickers

It's an 8 speed shifter lever. Seems like the number of clicks of the lever with STI should determine the type, either double or triple. I will check the number on the lever . Thank you, Jan

first click-moves it up to middle ring.
second click-moves it on to the biggest ring.
Yes, that is so, but............Stickers

There is a gentleman telling me that the Shimano 105 shifter, 8 speed, with two clicks, is for a double. I strongly doubt it. Thanks, Jan

Some sellers know less than nothing. My 8 speed triples have 2 clicks, and the doubles have 1. May have told you wrong about the model on the shifter though. A triple front will shift a double by using the granny position for the small ring and the first click position for the big ring, but you will have no trim positions for the front drailer.
Model # on the shifter, Rusty Coggs, is..................Stickers
