DuraAce Gear Indicator interchangeability(9 posts)

DuraAce Gear Indicator interchangeabilityWiseGuy

I have two bikes. One has 9 Sp DuraAce with an inline gear indicator near the right shifter. It is the small clear cylinder that installs inline on the shifter cable. The other bike has 9 Sp Ultegra.

I need to know if this gear indicator is interchangeable between the DA and Ultegra groups. It feels as if the shifter on the DA require less travel to shift, but I wasn't sure if the amount of cable pulled during shifts was different between DA and Ultegra.

If anyone out there knows the answer, please reply...I hate to cut up cable for an experiment.
will work...Mike Prince

Really nothing special about the indicator, just a dot that gets pulled by the cable. All Shimano 9-speed derailleurs are interchangable, so the pull is the same.
will work on anything except Campyweiwentg

the cable pull is the same throughout Shimano's road line. the difference you feel is probably that the DA levers have a shorter throw.
now, the indicator could work on Campy, but there's nowhere to put it.
Sure you could mount it ....the bull

you could mount the indicator on the bar top, where the shifter cable goes and just let it stick out through the bar tape.
