|I am buying my first road bike and am going to get a Felt. The F75 has 105/tiagra vs. the F85 with tiagra/sora. Is it overkill to spend the extra $250 for the nicer components or are the F85 specs fine for a rider just getting into it and mainly riding for fitness/short tours. My total budget is about $800. For that I could get the 85 and all of the other stuff I need (helmet, clothes, computer). If it is a better idea to go for the better components, I would stretch it. But not if there isn't much difference.
Here is the webpage for felt. Any input would be much appreciated.

|I would go for 105/Tiagra. Most of people will catch upgrade bug after riding for awhile. With 105/Tiagra, the road to upgrade will be easier, less costly. Thus, 105 components are said to be much better than Tiagra's.|

|carbon fork with the F75 versus the alloy fork on the F85. I think you'll appreciate the extra few bucks spent on the F75.|

|If money's really an issue, get the F85 and all the stuff you need while staying within your budget, then go off and get started. You'll love the bike.
It would be somewhat preferable to get the F75, but frankly it won't be THAT preferable and you won't know that for quite some time anyway. When and if the penny drops, and you've taken up riding for real, and you DO get upgrade-itis, you'll know exactly what you want (and it probably won't be the F-75 either. It'll be further up the food chain.)
Get either one. You won't be making a mistake whatever you do. Despite what people will tell you here, it's not a moon shot, it's a bike ride.

|Thanks to everyone for your thoughts. Not sure yet what I'll do, but I am somewhat of a gearhead, so I think having the 75 will suit me better.|

|From what I've read, I'd go for the F75. The carbon fork will be more comfortable and lighter, (all-alu frames are too harsh to my taste) and so will be the 105 group. It will certainly last you and you will probably enjoy it much longer before wanting any upgrade. With the F85 there may be a nagging regret: 'What if I had...?'
Good luck with your choice. Luke. Amsterdam. www.iwaarden.com
