Dura Ace Square Taper BBmtnb1kr

I have been looking for a DA square taper bb. I believe the spindle length is supposed to be 103mm. None of the current un BB's come this short. 107mm is about as small as I've seen.I don't need one yet but would like to keep my 8sp stuff running a while so I'd like to find one to keep on a shelf any ideas?

Ahhh, must be D/A 7410 crank you have. BB's are still made in this size from American Classic in Ti and Cro-Mo, FSA in Ti and Cro-Mo and also Phil Wood.

Good Luck

If your cranks are 7410, then yes it's a 103mm BB. Buy a new or used one on Ebay or rec.bicycles newsgroup. I have three bikes with the 7410 crankset and the BB is bullet proof. I bought 2 of the BB's new and 1 used. I can't tell the difference after thousands of miles on each.

Thanks, I'll check out e-bay and if it comes to it I'll check into the aftermarket ones from FSA or Wood. Those are kind of pricey but cheaper than upgrading.
107-103= 4mm ............ +2mm on a side ...........nmMR_GRUMPY

...than on other Shimano bottom bracket sets, pretty much the same as Campagnolo/Ritchey Logic/Sugino - you can probably use a Campy 102mm BB...

Effectively you can knock off about 1mm each side, so it's equivalent to ~101mm UN72 etc, *not* 103mm. Conversely, a 107mm UN72 is effectively 3mm longer each side, not 2mm.

7410 is handy if you're looking for a shorter BB for a MTB - assuming the crankarm doesn't bottom on the smaller taper - in my experience, Ritchey is good, but Shimano crankarms can be damaged.

7410 BBs were available from the local Shimano wholesaler here in Oz last time I asked - about a year ago.

Good hunting!
