Changing handlebars question?(4 posts)

Changing handlebars question?JL
Apr 29, 2003 10:35 AM
Do I need to do anything besides remove the two bolts on the stem and put on the new bar (and of course, the shifters/bar tape, etc.)? Do I need to loosen the stem/headset bolt(s) at all?

Just making sure.

Thanks in advance.

No need to loosen/remove anything but the bolts mentioned. Be aware, however, that the bars will need to be manipulated as you remove/install them, or they may score (scratch -- the beginning of a crack) at the stem.

Thanks. I'll be careful. Where would the score occur, assuming a threadless stem with a removable faceplate?

Thanks again.

A removable face plate negates any danger of scoring the bars.
