Pinging while climbing...(5 posts)

Pinging while climbing...koala
Apr 14, 2003 5:10 PM
Tonight while riding I was climbing a hill when I came upon limbs in the road left from the ice storm we had last week. I nearly came to a stop so I got out of the saddle and climbed hard to recover speed. I noticed a ping from my front wheel. Its a Mavic Classics Pro clincher. Its not the click of open pros, I have had that before too. It only happens when pulling hard, not in a longer rythym climb. The wheels have never needed(10000 miles plus) trueing and dont appear to need it now. Any thoughts?

Could be the spokes rubbing together. MIght want to wipe them down with a rag.

I have had this problem when out of the saddle climbing and the front quick release is not really tight. I just open it and tighten it a little more and the noise goes away.
I agree with...........BIG RING

both the previous posts. I noticed it after a pretty bad ride in the rain with my Open Pro's. A weeek later when I rode there was pinging and creaking from the front of the bike on hard accelerations uphill. I wiped down the spokes, added a drop of lubricant where the spokes intersect, wiped off excess. Then I took the front wheel off, wiped the drop outs and wheel axle. No more problem with the pinging or creaking.
I will give that a try, thanks for the responses.n.m.koala
