Flight Deck wireless mounting screws...(3 posts)

Flight Deck wireless mounting screws...Matno

I just installed the wireless harness last night and was a bit disappointed with the little bits and pieces. Two screws were the wrong size!

First, the screw that clamps the bracket to the handlebars was too short. I have standard handlebars (Ritchey, and there was no way to make it even reach the nut. Seems kind of stupid since the bracket's design has room for extra length in case the screw is too long. Why don't they just make it a little longer? The kit came with an extra bolt, but they were all the same length. Seems like it would be easy to just make the spare a little longer... Anyway, I just pulled the lockring and washer off of one of them and it worked okay. Not ideal, but I'm not exactly worried about it coming loose. (Besides, I have a spare that fits just as well as the first!)

Second, the bolt that holds the magnet to the spoke was too long! There's a ring that goes around the magnet housing between the magnet and the bolt head. Mine has exactly twice as much room as it needs. In other words, I could put TWO of those rings on there (I'm not sure what the purpose of it is in the first place other than maybe to keep out dirt). Problem is, it's loose and can slide back and forth as far as it's entire width. Annoying. I wonder if it's supposed to be that way? I have standard 14/15 gauge spokes... For now, I'll just live with it. (I haven't ridden it yet so I don't know if it will bother me). Maybe if I get bored sometime, I'll grind it down with my handy Dremel. :^)

Now, if only I had a Flight Deck head to go with the mount! Mine was supposedly mailed via UPS almost 2 weeks ago (13 days) and still not here. Michigan to New York shouldn't take that long! Unfortunately, the guy I bought it from is on vacation and doesn't have the tracking number with him. I hope it gets here soon. I'm getting impatient...

I just left the ring on the magnet off -- couldn't figure out what good it was going to do me, and it rattled.

Don't recall any issues with the clamp bolt length -- maybe I just have skinnier bars.

So that is what the silly little ring laying on my work bench is for. I couldn't remember what it was for, so I did not throw it away. I can pitch it now. Thanks.
