Record BB re-installation.(5 posts)

Record BB re-installation.MXL02

I crashed my MXL two weeks ago, and the boys down at my LBS wonderfully went down to Trialtir, picked up a new frame and fork, and switched my Record Triple components over in a matter of days. The shake down rides have shown, among other things, some movement in the bottom bracket- when you mash on the pedals, there is significant lateral movement in the chain rings, and you can get noticeable movement manipulating the pedals by hand. These guys are pretty good, but this is their first foray into Record Triple land...is there something in particular that could have been missed or an error made when reinstalling the BB?
No, except for lack of torque...TJeanloz

The Record bottom bracket is a no-brainer. Either they didn't put it in tight enough or the BB is defective. Odds of anybody not installing a BB tight enough are slim -- so my guess is that you have an actual problem with the BB unit itself.
Sounds weird. Chase threads and re-face? nmSpunout

Check it when it's out of the frameKerry

If the unit is loose or has play when it is out of the frame, then it is defective. You should be able to see where the play is when you wiggle the unit as installed - look at the BB axle where it enters the shell and the threads on the cups. This should tell you whether it is loose in the frame or the axle is loose in the cartridge.
