Today my right shifter started to make asquawking noise when I downshift. Is there a specific type of lube or mtnc that should be performed to stop this, or is this a sign of more bad stuff to come?
Thanks,

The only solution is to replace it with Campy. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Check the cable guide under the bottom bracket. When energy drink dribbles and dries down there the shifter feels stiff and "squawks." Remove it with *really hot* water, then relube with a little triflow.

Went to check it more closely this morning, shifted it one time and the frayed cable popped out of the shifter frayed and severred. New cable coming up.

Beat me to it... I was gonna tell you to check your cable and housing...

Replace your housing while you are at it. It's cheap. I always use new housing when I replace a cable. It a cable snaps, it can often be from a burr in the housing. But get new housing while you are at it. And since you are doing your rear cable, you might as well do the front too.
