|Thanks to those who gave help and advice as I upgraded from 8 speed to 9 speed. It has been completed! The suggestions and links to view were of great help. Thanks! It took longer than expected but it was fun and nothing fell off on my inagural voyage.
My question. I have a 12-23 cassete, with 53-39 chain rings. When I am in the small chainring, and the 13 cassete, the chain rubs on the inside of the large chainring. Not bad, but it is obvious it rubs. I have the small chainring suggested for 9 speeds. I am running a sram 99 chain.
Is this normal? Will it cause excessive wear on the chain or the chain ring?
Thanks again for your help!

|If you can't live with it, reply with make, model, spline type of your crankset and bottom bracket and others may be able to tell you how to insert spacers at the bottom bracket to move the crank arm out. Or they may know other solutions.
Also, an archive search in this forum will turn up many discussions of this problem.

|That noise is just your drivetrain reminding you that you need to pay attention to something called "chain management".
My bike does the same thing. Doesn't bother me.
