Tacx Tao bottle cage question(8 posts)

Tacx Tao bottle cage questionCheezhead

I was looking at these in the LBS, and I noticed that when I put a water bottle in it, the bottle can rattle around a bit. Is this normal? Do I need to buy a special-sized water bottle?

The bottles rattle around a little.. the cages don't grip the bottle tightly BUT the bottle is more secure & easy to get in and out in these than any other cage I've used.. If you don't like rattle though, they aren't for you.. They can be noisy on bad pavement.

Some, but not all, bottles do fit loosely and may rattle. I used the Tao's all last season and never had a bottle come out, regardless of size. I can't say the same for any other cage I've used over the last 35 years. I'm not sold on their looks but they are very functional.

How in the heck does a water bottle come out of ANY water bottle cage on a road bike? I can understand a mountain bike where you're riding over rough terrain, but a road bike? There's a serious problem if any cage loses a bottle! I've used various cheap to nice cages for the last 15 years, and I've never had a bottle come out on my road bike. (And only once on my mountain bike).

I'm not saying it's not possible, I'm just curious how it has happened to you (or anyone else). It just SEEMS unlikely...

I ride with a large group on Saturdays (60-70 people) and water bottles often go out during fast sections. When you are riding three abreast at 28 mph in a peloton you may have to hit potholes and thats when bottles come out. Just by the action of taking the wb in and out, the cage wires may move and the bottle will not be held tight. Its good to check often the cage and bend the wires in so they hold the bottle as when new.

All my bottles from Performance fit like a glove and don't rattle.

just fix the screws in that way that the bottle cage is not fully aligned, then the bottle will be secured

Thats what I use. The bottles fit tight. Pretty good system.
