|which is a better choice? i'm looking for frame that can be used for everyday ride and racing. I like use big gear and like to sprint. Climb once in a while but when climb, i prefer big gear. So any idea which is more suitable if i can get both at the same price?|

|The Merak is a freaking awesome frame! And you won't see that many of them around on your training rides. It's one of the most sought after frames in Europe. It is said that a lot of current Italian pros pay Ugo DeRosa to build their bikes and then paint them to match their team's bikes. I like the Giant, but between the two, hands down, I am a DeRosa fan. Amazing quality and craftsmenship. DeRosa's don't have any of the paint problems of Colnagos... they are just sweet bikes. Another one you may want to look at as a sprinter/big gear hammerin guy is the Planet. But the Merak is bad a$$!

|just picked one up about 6 weeks ago from a guy that bought the wrong size, his loss my gain. Everyone just drools over it when I ride it and it actually has me contemplating selling my Look 381. Not that it is better than my 381, but I feel it is a do everything frame and I'm feeling guilty for owning 2 bikes of this caliber. The 381 is my baby so I dont think i will be able to pull the trigger. I dont think you could go wrong either way but does Giant really compare to DeRosa when it comes to lust factor? no contest in my book, and the paint on the DeRosa is amazing.|

|what size do you ride? i think i am medium (48cm seat tube), but i just can't find their geometry for the effective top tube online. What is the painting like? is it anodized?|

|If you race, you're gonna crash eventually. And when you do, you better hope you don't have to wrangle up some obscure derailler hanger from an Italian framemaker. You ever see that stuff on Ebay? No! God forbid you damage the frame somehow. I don't care what his credentials are, no yahoo frame-fixer is gonna be able to repair U107 tubing and then paint it back up exactly the way it looked. Or you could send the frame back to the factory in Italy... and say goodbye to the season.
On the other hand, half the shops in town carry Giant stuff. Sure, you crash of their frames and you're gonna be out a few bucks. But you'll probably be riding the next weekend. That's worth a lot.

|At the level you're looking at, it's hard to go wrong. Both of those bikes are excellent choices. Personally, I'd go with the Merak just because it inspired lust in my heart.|
