Giant TCR Comp crash update.....johnrg
Mar 25, 2003 7:40 PM
I posted a week ago regarding my damaged TCR Comp. Just found out crash replacement is 15% off retail (Oh boy!). Dissapointed to say the least. I won't be replacing it with a new one at that price. Giant just lost me as a repeat customer.
Just what did you want them to do ?MR_GRUMPY

If you total your car, does the dealer give you 20% off on a new one? Crashing and frame destruction is just one of the bad things that can happen when you ride a bike. The super lightweight frames tend to break a lot more often than a middleweight frame.
Sorry for your loss, but life goes on.
You're right. Mr. Grumpy....johnrg

I got my hopes up when I was told there was a "crash program". I expected a deeper discount. Initially I expected the frame was a throw away and posted that expectation earlier. This thread was just an update for those interested in what I found out regarding the program ;-)

How does Giant's program compare to say Trek or Cannondale's 'crash replacement programs'? Is there an expectation based on what other manufacturers do?

Airborne Crash Replacement Warranty
To protect consumers' investment further, if an Airborne titanium frame is damaged and is not covered by our manufacturer warranty, Airborne will provide a replacement frame for 50% of current retail. This additional warranty is for individuals who have damaged their frame due to crashes or accidents. No dealer wholesale; this program deals directly with the consumer. Dealers can charge for labor to swap parts from the damaged frame to the replacement.

What planet are they on? 15% off retail is a crash rip off program, they might as well say that they do not have a crash replacement program.
Thanks for your passing on the information.

Wholsale is like $300.00, MSRP is around $500.00 I think, jeez he screwed up but he's still into a nice frame for a lot less than most other manufacturers similar frames.
actually no....johnrg

price for the frameset is $1400. While not as high as some it's still $1,400 and the bicycle industry does have a good markup at retail.
Something to think aboutMudman

Yes, I would like to know what other carbon frame manufactures crash programs are too. How does Treks carbon program compare to Giants?

I would think ti/steel/alum frames would have a higher rebate percentage do the the lack of claims....ie harder to damage beyond repair.
