|I hope this isn's a stuped question but, I've got about 20,000 miles on ultergra hubs and bb. Is there any maintenance I should have done (new bearings, grease, etc.)?
Thanks for your help,

|I go through my hubs at least twice a year, and I probably put 7500 miles/year on at the most. I would spin the axle with your fingers slowly and see if you feel anything gritty or whether there is excessive play. Even if they feel OK, I would go through them. I've had bearings spin OK and feel OK but when opened up, were rusting and the grease was like gravy from water intrusion. As far as the BB goes, I think the Ultegra unit is mostly sealed and probably difficult to disassemble. Probably just run it until it craps out and buy another.

|The hub should be disassembled, everything cleaned, any worn parts replaced and clean grease installed. If the bearings are still shiny, they don't need to be replaced. Doing this once per year is right for most people unless they do a lot of rain riding. The BB should be done as well, with cleaning/greasing the threads on the cartridge and frame, then torque to spec. (50 nm) when you reinstall. You can't overhaul the unit, but if you don't do this job now, you'll be posting asking for help on removing a frozen BB.|| |
