|consider this: mavic t221 touring rims, deore xt disc hubs, to be used on a surly karate monkey mtb frame. (its a new design that'll accomodate 700c wheels.) what type of spokes would you use? straight guage, 14 or 15 guage? double butted spokes? dt alpine III's? wheelsmiths? why? my guess is that the disc brakes put unique stresses on spokes. the bike will be used for commuting and shopping, with a rack and occassionally with panniers loaded from grocery shopping.
any ideas would be much appreciated.

|That's pretty much my preference for everything. I don't see that disc brakes will create any unusual stress on the spokes as long as you use a 3 cross pattern.|

|DB spokes take more tension and make more durable wheels. Pers I like WS they slightly thinner and lighter but you can't go wrong with DT. Just make sure wheels're tensioned properly.|| |
