Mavic Cosmos ok for Cross? Wheelset recc/(3 posts)

Mavic Cosmos ok for Cross? Wheelset recc/striker
Mar 10, 2003 5:45 AM
Is the Cosmos decent for Cross? I tacoed my front wheel (open pro/specialized hub).

What's a good wheelset for under $300 that will be strong?

Thanks,

I would check with your local shops and see if you can find a Cane Creek dealer.. check into the Deep-V Road Wheel. Get the 24 front, 28 rear setup. It was a 2002 wheel, so I don't know if you can still find it. Cane Creeks webpage doesn't have anything like it for 2003. But here's the info about the 2002 wheels.

The Cosmos are basically an Open Pro built on a Mavic Hub. They use straight pull spokes and lower spoke counts, but the rims are about the same as the Open Pro. If you taco'd one, do you really want what amounts to the same thing?

I only weigh around 145, but my boyfriend hasn't been able to destroy his either and he's a Clydesdale. We're pretty hard on our stuff, and I've been using the Cosmos on the 'crosser for over a year, lots of rocks, dropoffs and just plain hard riding - they've held up amazingly well. I'm a big fan.
