|(xpost from retro) Converting from down-tube to STI/Ergo?||MrDan|

Looking at "steel things - Italian". The steed in question is an 8 speed Chorus with down-tube indexed shifters. Since the dropouts are 130mm, I'm wondering if anyone makes barrel-tube adjusters that fit on the existing down-tube shifer bosses, so at some later date I may update easily to 9 spd. Also does Campy make down-tube 9 spd shifters?

|All the ergo levers that I have purchased came with a pair cable stop/adjusters that bolt in place of the down-tube shifter. There should be a lot of people who have spares around. I've got two unused pairs myself.
Down-tube shifters can be converted to 9 or 10 speed with the proper indexing rachet.
Check out www.branfordbike.com and www.campagnolo.com for all the info you need.

Would you be interested in swapping one of your unused sets for an unused (I think) set of Shimano DT adaptors? I prefer the Campy ones I've seen, and I have a need for 'em in the near future...
Please e-mail me if this sounds possible.

|If I understand you correctly, these are the parts you need. They come with Ergo shifters (and with Shimano STI too) and just mount where your DT shifters used to be.
The difficult part is trying to put DT shifters on some newer frames that don't have standard DT shifter bosses.
And I don't believe there are DT shifters for 10 speed Campy.

|I was busy trying to get that picture to upload when he posted his reply.
8 speed DT shifters can be updated with a cog, which Branford bike has listed under the "bar-end shifter" section of their site. I'm no Campy expert, and actually use the "other stuff" myself.
I was in the same position, my (steel) Gios had a 7 speed DT shifter group, and I wanted to upgrade to 9 speed (remember my comment about not being a campy guy). I seriously thought about going to 9-speed downtube shifting, but ended up going with STI shifters. It turned out that it was not that much more expensive, and I figured if you are going to go modern, you may as well go all the way. However, this is a personal decision, but that's what I did in your shoes. -Dave
