Ouzo Pro vs Serotta 02 - Some Clarification Please...huffer
Mar 3, 2003 5:50 PM
I'm building up a race bike and wanted to put an Ouzo Pro fork on my Legend Ti, but the wrench at my local bike shop said that the Serotta 02 fork is essentially an Ouzo Pro with a different name slapped on it, and he could get it for me for the same price as an Ouzo Pro. So I ended up ordering the Serotta fork and now I am left wondering if I am getting a fork of lesser quality/performance than what I had originally planned. So is this guy right or have I been duped?

Serotta has 2 Ouzo Pro style forks: a modified Ouzo Pro with titanium dropouts called the F2, and a rebadged Ouzo Pro called the 02. They are both produced by Reynolds, but Serotta claims that the F2 has a radically different carbon layup. Whatever - it looks exactly like the Ouzo Pro, but costs almost $600. The 02 costs me $320 from my Serotta dealer, paint to match included. Not a bad deal.

Just because they look like alike does not mean they ride the same. The F2 is stiffer and tracks far better in my opinion (whether you like extra stiff or not) and rides very similarly to the F1 fork. I've ridden/own/owned all 3 forks (the ouzo pro, F2 and F1), so I'm not just rehashing Serotta verbage.

I think we agree that the 02 and the Ouzo Pro are the same thing (provided the rake is identical).

Now Alex was wondering if the F2 was any better than the 02/Ouzo Pro, because the supposed improvements are suspect, and even if they are genuine, you have to ask if it justifies the huge pricetag.

The F1 is old and discontinued, I believe. I also believe Reynolds didn't make it.

Worth the huge pricetag? Everyone is different and what is important to me may not be important to others. The F1 is discontinued (well, they still have a few left at Serotta) and you are correct that it was not built by reynolds. However, of the 3 forks, the F1 is still the best in my opinion.

Interesting that the price is the same as the Ouzo Pro.

Serotta 02 advantages - can be color matched if your bike is painted, has Serotta logos (if that matters).

Ouzo Pro advantages - possibly more choices for rake, can take it off and put it on another frame. Also easier to sell down the road because the Serotta will have a narrower resale market.
