Will shimano 10 speed cassette fit on same 8-9 speed hub?the bull

Wondering if anyone knows if all those wheelsets out there are going to be obsolete?

I read that they will not; the spline pattern will be different; however, old cassettes will fit on the new freehubs. This was not an official source, though.

sounds like file time!nmthe bull

the original, official press release stated that the system would be backwards-compatible, iirc. of course, I could have remembered wrongly, or Shimano could have changed their minds.

Old cassettes will work on new hubs; old wheels won't work with new cassettes. So, the new hubs are "backwards compatible."

Sounds like a song I heard by blues traveler to me..

Who needs to humor me and tell me lies
Yeah humor me and tell me lies
And I'll lie too and say I don't mind
And as we seek so shall we find

And when you're feeling open I'll still be here
But not without a certain degree of fear
Of what will be with you and me
I still can see things hopefully

But you
Why you wanna give me a run-around
Is it a sure-fire way to speed things up
When all it does is slow me down

Shimano may have shot themselves in the foot on this one. How many people with mega buck Ksyrium, Rolf, Bontrager, etc., etc. wheels won't be able to upgrade without buying new wheels? Unless an adapter presents itself my guess is that many will sit tight.

think Im gonna ride my nine speed stuff for one more year.the bull

Then Im gonna go to campy. I am tired of shimmano anyway.

My guess is companies like Mavic and Zipp will be offering 10spd Shimano compatible freehub bodies.

it befuddles me that there aren't more third party kits for fitting campy to shimano, or the other way around, or for fitting a 10 speed on a 9 speed wheel- seems the width of the cassette really should be a non issue, and that the compatibility issues are merely gratuitous based on the spline pattern (unless there are like 4 teeth on the smallest cog and it simply is smaller than the body itself ;) )

folks with high-zoot equipment are usually the first in line to "upgrade" to new high-zoot equipment. Forced obsolescence appears to be good for business (folks still riding 6/7/8 speed excepted)
there will be lots of barely used wheels on e-Bay ;) nmcyclopathic

yes, this could be a mistake on their part. one can already put 10s cassettes on a Shimano hub (wheels, am classic), so what's their problem?
