According to Mavic I'm supposed to use the spoke protector with the Ksyrium SL's. If I use the spoke protector and tighten my cassette...there is noticable resistance (drag) on the spoke protector. If I loosen the lock ring for the cassette so there isn't drag on the spoke protector ther is play in my cassette.

I'm using a Shimano cassette so I am using the spacer per Mavic's instructions. Any ideas on what's going on? Help!

I am not sure about the protector itself, as I usually take them off. I did this with my Ksyriums, anyways. With proper limit screw adjustment, you really should not need one in the first place. Make sure you keep the spacer, tough.

Yeah, I'm currently running without my spoke protector...living dangerously I guess.

When I put my Ksyriums on last year I took the spoke protector off and see no need for it at all. Using Shimano 12-25 cassette.
