Check it out -- appears that Bianchi had some sort of headset integrated into the headtube lugs long ago:

... since the bicycle is one of the most patented items in history...it's no real surprise that virtually any thing you could think of has probably been thought of... and in many cases done in the past.

It's the Yin and Yang of "standards and innovations"... Standards stifle innovation (I suspect that early bicyles were all equipped with proprietary components)... Innovations disturb the standards... and in a Capitalist society/economy... the best doesn't win... rather the successfully marketed does...

It's funny to see all the debates about "new" things, when it turns out they were done long ago.

I bet people debated the hell out of the new "clinchers" back around the turn of the century -- the one before this last one.
