Any one had wheels built by Joe Young?Ambishawn

Got some prices from Joe today for some wheels. He likes DT240 hubs. He says there better than Campy and build a stronger rear wheel due to reduced wheel dish. He say's he uses higher spoke tension than most builders and tensions each spoke within 5% of one another on front and on each side rear. Any opinions?

Thanks

No, but I was looking at his website yesterday - what prices did he quote. Is he more/less/about the same as others? I'd like to do business with a guy from Fredricksburg.

I got qoutes for 3 wheels between $521 and $631 shipped. This includes $80 labor and $24 shipping to L.A. His recommended Wheel was of course $631. The DT Hugi Hubs are $300 a pair but he claims they are way better than the Campy hubs in every way. $300 is actually really good for DT 240 hubs. The rest of the parts are average prices.
That's not bad [nm]Leroy

Considering the cost of the better wheels sets that's rather good. $300 is a smoking deal for those DT Hugi 240 hubs. $80 is more than a lot of bike shops charge but if his labor were cheaper it would scare Me. Although Wise Cycle Buys has Campy Euris Wheels for $599 shipped to the door.

Joe built a rear wheel for my commuter bike, with DT Hugi hub (actually Specialized shell, Hugi innards, which I already had), with DT spokes and Open Pro CD rim which he supplied. He uses a tensiometer, which surprisingly few wheelbuilders use, and he knows his stuff. I picked it up from him, he lives in a ranch house north of Fredericksburg, TX.

The wheel has been absolutely true since he built it 6 months ago, has been run ~1500 miles. I recommend him highly.

We know Joe young favors the Hugi hubs. What brands and models of rims and spokes does he favor?

I assume He favors DT spokes as well. He thinks Mavic rims are of excellant quality. He don't like Velocity Areoheads too much. He seems to favior strong fairly light wheels as opposed to superlight low spoke count wheel sets. He's probably gonna build some wheels for Me soon.
