What's your experience with these wheels? Are they
sturdy / rugged /reliable? How were they when you got them - true - did they stay true?

Came stock on my '02 LeMond Zurich. They were true and stayed that way for 500 miles, when the rear required just a slight tweaking. Since, have stayed true for 1000 more miles. Are they rugged? Seem to be: I ride on plenty of tar and chip roads. Reliable? No problems so far. As they come stock on lots of Trek bikes, I would guess Ebay availability is high.
Thanks much! - Anybody else? nmMrDan

had to touch them up once ~500miles and they've been true since. there is a break in period as the wheels became faster and faster for the first 700 miles or so

I've not had to even lightly true mine after 2000 miles. They've taken some pretty good hits, too. Can't complain at all.

I have a set on my 2003 Trek 5500 - very good wheelset - no flex (I'm 80kg ~ 176pounds), required initial truing after 2000 miles - then they are broken in and remain true - even with the occasional pothole bang. Best value wheelset available at this pricepoint. I have a total of around 3000 miles on them now and am very happy with them. They are stiffer than Xlites so more suitable for heavier riders. I did have a problem with the stock scewer on the rear - didn't hold the wheel centred between the chain stays - Trek sused out that the alloy ends on the scewers didn't hold firm and replaced them with Rolf Titanium scewers as a warranty item - this has fixed the problem but they (Trek) tell me mine was an "isolated" problem - ie - nobody else has had the same problem.

Good luck with yours,

The Bontrager line of wheels is surprisingly good. I work at a Trek dealer and I have owned a Mtn and Road set of the Select wheels which are a lower end version of the ones you are asking about. Both versions held up amazingly well, rarely needed truing. I have seen the same thing with all the Race Lite and Race X Lite wheels that we have had leave the shop as well. I didn't expect much from them when they first came out but I have been pleasantly surprised.

Oh, and when I said the Selects have held up well....keep in mind I weigh in at 270lbs!!!!
(yeah, I'm going to work on that this year)
Thanks everybody! nmMrDan

I have the Bontrager X-Lite Carbon wheels. Best wheels I've ever ridden on. Truly great. Best wheel on the market for that price and supreme quality!!!
