I'm waiting for my C40 frame to arrive. But when i ordered it the man of the shop told me not to buy Campagnolo seatpost because it cracks! He told me to keep the original C40 Colnago carbon seatpost. Do you think he spoke right? Thanks(12 posts)

I don't think so. And that being so, why didn't the shop guy tell you that?

I've only seen two Record posts, both cracked.
why would you not use the original? nmDougSloan

of years with no problem. Could shim it to fit, but why? Youre paying for the Colnago seat post, don't see any reason to swap it out.
Why change ??MR_GRUMPY

Excuse my cheapness, but why would you buy a seatpost, when one comes with the frame ?

No, i tought not to buy the colnago seatpost because i love campagnolo products. The guy of the shop would have kept the price of the colnago seatpost off. Same for the stem: i didn't buy the original colnago stem matching with c40 frame, i have bought ITM couple Uniko - Unika.

The Campy carbon post, or any other carbon post for that matter, will break if you over tighten the clamp. I weigh 225 and I've been using the Campy carbon post for a year in my CT-1 without a problem. I don't think the Campy post is the same size as the C40's post. Just use the C40 post. I would however change to the Campy clamp. It is superior to ever clamp out there.

I've seen three Colnagos in the last few months, All with cracked Campy Seatposts. Campy will NOT warrenty these POS's. Save yourself the headache and money and stick with the Colnago seatpost. Our shop policy is to STRONGLY discourage customers from buying a Campy Carbon post due to Campys customer diservice policy.

I've been riding the Colnago post for the last three seasons. The clamp design is far better than Campy's. The clamp is a two-bolt type that allows infinite angle adjustment that won't change is you loosen the clamp to move the saddle forward or back.

The post has a little more setback that can be needed.

The Campy post is also not available in the 28.0mm size.

I agree. The Colnago carbon post is made by Selcoff, the same as my Pinarello Prince post. From feedback gathered by all Selcoff and Colnago post owners, it is far more reliable than the Campy one. In fact, all our lbs not stock the Campy post anymore, as Campy does not offer good warranty nor any guatentees on the post. Selcoff is a very good post maker...

The C-40 has a weird (non-standard) size seatpost of 28 mm. You can use shims on a 27.2 mm to make it fit, but you might as well just use the one that comes with your bike. Its a nice post (I've got a C-40) and goes with the bike (has the clover).

Campag don't make a 28.0mm post, only 27.2 and 32.4. Carbon fibre seat posts crack because of overtightening of the binder bolt on the seat tube.
