853 is a stronger alloy and a frame made from it could be lighter, but that's not an absolute because there are alot of different 853 tubests with different diameter and butting.A crap frame or a good frame could be made from either.Any specifics makes involved?

Dear Rusty Coggs,
In regards my earlier post, the makes involved for the Reynolds 853 is the Scanttante R-853 roadbike selling @ www.supergo.com and for the Columbus Thron Chromoly steel, Univega Modo Volare fram selling at www.pricepoint.com Both the frame/bike are selling very cheap. Just considering which one to get. have always like Titanium and steel frame.
Thanks

The 853 tubeset in the Supergo frame is no prize. It's one of the heavy ones. The Univega frame being plain chromo is likely even heavier. 853 being air hardening after welding could be the better candidate assuming it was done right.I like steel too,but doubt that either would make my list.Make sure you get the size right. The Supergo frame comes in 4 sizes and has big jumps in TT length.

the Roubaix has an 853 main triangle, cromoly double butted stays. alternatively, look at one of the lower end Lemonds - they still have an 853 main triangle and 525 stays.
Had a 853 frame from IF loved it nmthe bull
