|How to stop bar/stem from cracking and popping!?||gnailuh|

|Hi, I just installed a Newton stem and the Deda 215 bar. Works great by the way. I was able to set the steerer bolts at 20 Nm as recommended. But my torque wrench is for my motorcycle and does not go below 16 Nm. So I can't torque the stem cap bolts at the 8 Nm they want. Did it by hand and it's nice and firm.
But when I ride, especially climbing, it cracks and pops... squeeky... do you think the stem cap bolts are too tight or not tight enough? I put anti-sieze on the bolts too. Should I not and use grease instead? Not a big deal, but kinda annoying... and I heard from others who use this setup that they don't have any noise.

|Are the bolts ti ?
I have the cinelli solido / solida stem (ti hardware)and bar combo... and i had a bit of creaking in my set-up as well...most noticeable when sprinting, i applied grease to the ALL of the stem bolts along with a light coat where the stem and bar contact each other and also where the stem contacts the fork (which is an aluminum steerer) and it went away...that was 4 months ago !! NO bar slippage either.
|Yes, Ti bolts.||gnailuh|

|Do you run campy?||Spoiler|

|I run campy and I suspect that some creaking comes from the cable housing rubbing against the bar under the handle bar tape. Especially if the housing end is butted up tight inside the ergo lever slot. Or I could just be high.|
|Yes, I do run Campy...||gnailuh|

|Could it be? It doesn't sound like a squeak... it's more like a popping and cracking noise... but I guess it could be. I'll take a look... Thanks.|| |
