1 1/8" Stem --> 1" Fork(4 posts)

1 1/8" Stem --> 1" Forkswampman

I have a new 1 1/8" stem to put on my 1" fork. The stem came with an insert for the 1" fork that has a flange on the insert so it will not slide though the stem. Should the flange show in the top or bottom of the stem? I don't want to find out i did it wrong when i am going down a hill at 40mph.
Thanks
either way...C-40

I've used a Ritchey WCS both ways. It really doesn't matter, IF the top cap that is used is more than 1-1/8 inches in diameter to insure that pressure is exerted on the top of the stem, not just the bushing.

If you have a top cap that is less than 1-1/8" in diameter, placing the flange on top will insure that pressure is exerted on the stem, as intended.

When I put the flange on top, I had problems adjusting the headset.
