|Grease Octalink or ISIS spindles ??||InTheMiddle|

|I've been wrenching for years, building wheels, bikes, everything. I finally got out of my retro-grouch cave and got an Octalink DA BB.
It came on a used bike and when I switched over to new cranks it apparently was sorta greasy in there.
I was always taught with the square taper to NEVER grease the sindle/crank interface so I cleaned off all the grease and put the cranks on.
All was well for about 500 miles, but I have developed a single creak per revolution on the drive side.
Should I have regreased after taking the dirty stuff off ? Or is it likely that it is from the BB or pedal or something else....
Seems like with the tight fit with the cranks on the spindle and much more surface area contact a little grease might be a good thing ?
