I can understand sexy names like "Ultegra" and "Dura Ace", but what does 105 mean? That # has to refer to something.
I wouln't read too much into itColnagoFE

Ultegra used to be called 600 or something like that. Probably just a model #.
It's a coded message from the Raelians (nm)Kerry

Or, while we're at it, what does "Dura-Ace" mean, and why do the Japs pronounce it "Durra-Chee"?

Like that Seifeld where he talks about how car makers just take positive words and add on suffixes to them. Like Maxima (maximum) and Integra (Integrity).

Ultegra is like a mix of Ultimate and Integrity. Dura-Ace is Durable (like it can go forever) and Ace (The best). I always thought that was the marketing logic behind those names. Maybe not, though. That's where 105 doesn't make sense to me. I figured it was something from cycling's past that I am too young to know about.
Reminds me of Taylormade's new golf clubs...Spunout
