or 9sp Campy. After watching little 130 lb 'climbing specialists" snap Shimano 9 and Campy 10 chains in the Giro/Tour/Classics I lost all confidence in the more is better motto. Considering their bikes are maintained daily by a professional wrench and changed frequently what chance does my 200 plus pounds of everyday riding have? I've broken 2 Shimano 9 chains (both MTB) and reverted back to 8 on my MTB. I use Sachs chains now.

And I liked it that Shimano resisted the urge to go 10-speed for so long. If a group is good, why does it have to be "improved". I guess sooner or later, marketing takes over.

As far as pros breaking chains, don't be so sure they're Shimano or Campy chains. Who knows what drilled out titanium chains those guys really use.
