Looking for durable brake pads...(3 posts)

Looking for durable brake pads...5ive
Feb 3, 2003 7:44 PM
I'm not happy with my Ultegra brake pads. They tend to get worn down so quickly after few rides in the rain. I'm looking for a harder compound pads that will last for a while. Are there any KoolStops or other 3rd party brake pads users out there with recommendations on sturdy, long lasting brake pads? Thanx.

Try the Kool Stop replacement cartridge pads, in either the salmon or the dual-compound salmon/black. They will stop better, make less noise, and wear less on your rims than the Shimano pads.

I've got the Koolstop blacks, and even they're far better than the Ultegra pads. The compound's softer, but they last longer, and don't leave as much residue on the rim (actually, in dry weather, they don't leave anything). Since you're riding in the rain, I'd definitely recommend the Salmons, as that's what they're made for.
Koolstop makes most of the aftermarket pads out there, as I understand, so a Ritchey red or blue would probably work as well, but I have no experience with them.
