Headset Installation Help NeededZerotrek

I just received a new Specialized S-Works road frame and it came with an FSA headset uninstalled. I have never installed a headset before, but I do enjoy doing things myself. I have done quite a few other installations myself, BB, cables, shifters, brakes, but with all these parts (3 thin aluminum rings, 3 black stainless steel rings, 2 thick aluminum rings and 2 other medium rings) I do not know where to start.

I could afford to have my LBS do it for me, but I prefer to learn for myself if possible. I own The Zinn & Art of Road Bike Maintenance, but it does not seem to cover headset installation well enough to make me comfortable doing it. I was planning on buying the Park HHP-1($100), but considereing the cost I prefer to be sure I can do it myself before ordering a bunch of tools.

Any suggestions or advice?

As for the rings... are you speaking of spacers??? If so, you may also have to size and cut your fork (depending on your personal fit).

I'm an advocate of DYI... but if in doubt about your abilities or techniques... better a shop than a ruined frame.

Good luck!
