Zip lock ties used as pump pegs for Blackburn frame pumps...DINOSAUR
Jan 24, 2003 9:55 AM
I attempted to use a zip lock as a pump peg for my Blackburn FP-1, which I have used before and no-go. I think the head of the zip lock was too large. I don't know what size I used (8x1/16?) as I threw away the packaging. I've used one before and it worked. The zip lock would also not stay secure, perhaps because of the wax I have on my frame. Anyone know off hand what size I should be using. I'm going on a trip with my bike and I don't think I'll get an answer back in time if I contact Blackburn.

Can't answer the size question (why not just take the pump with you to the hardware store?), but I know the problem of being able to get enough tension to keep it from rotating on the tube. You might try a thin rubber shim (like a section of old ultralight tube) under the zip tie. Should create enough friction to keep it from rotating.
