Handle Bar Dia. Question(5 posts)

Handle Bar Dia. QuestionFkp4ever

Ok... Here it goes... I'm building up my first roadbike. I have some older Shimano600 STI shifters (8 speed). When I look at the clamp it says 23.8-24.2. Now is that the Diameter range that I need??? 'cause I can't find any in that range

Are all Handlebars the same diameter except for the mid-section? I was looking at some various Ritchey WCS handle bars (my team is sponsored by Ritchey so I kinda want to stick with them). Most of their bars said 31.8/26.0/25.8 diameters. Does that mean that none of those bars will work for me?? Or is that just the midsection diameter?

I am really confused and need to find out very soon so I can order my parts.

Thanks a ton in advance,
Forrest

Most shifter clamp diameters should work no problem.

Focus on the stem clamp diameter, at this end you have to be exact. 26.0= 26.0. TTT uses 25.4, and common oversize equipment is 31.X.

TTT is 26.0 clamp and Nitto nakes a 25.4. The 23.8/24.2 reference is to where the shifters clamp on the bar and is current road standard. There use to be a smaller stanrd found on low end/dept store bikes.

don't sweat it...the STI clamps are ALL universal... what you need to be concerned with is the stem clamp diameter and the handlebar stem clamp area diameter, make sure those two numbers match up. HAVE FUN BUILDING YOUR BIKE!!!!!
