Got rid of my 53 CR, should I shorten my chain?timfire

On my commuter I took off my 53 chainring and front derailer. Now I just just have a single 39 CR. What I'm wondering is should I shorten my chain now? I know that keeping the chain long won't hurt anything, but I wasn't sure if there was an advantage in shortening it.

Also, if I do shorten it, how long do I make it? I know that way to normally gauge chain length is by wrapping the chain around the big CR and the biggest cog in back, and then adding 2 links. Would I do that in my situation, or would I do something different?

Thanks in advance.

Why not? I'd run it around the ring and the largest cog, plus through the rear derailleur, and size it up that way. No use carrying around a bunch of extra links.

Can't think of any reason not to.
