F. Derailleur clamp dented my frame...LinuxDude

I just noticed a dent or depression on the seat tube of my CroMo frame, where the FD clamp is held. This freaking clamp, which I bought separately, has a weird shape towards the ends. So, I guess when I was tightening the Allen screw I must have been on the drivetrain side, not seeing the damage I was causing. I definetly had over-tightened the clamp, but I never thought one could cause so much damage.

So now, I'm wondering if I could do anything to fix the dent or whether the frame would be safe to ride on (although, when I was riding it didn't feel any different)? Do I need to apply any kind of protective coating (on the dented location) to increase the life of the frame?

Any kind of help would be really appreciated.

The frame will be fine. I have one like this also. As well as a carbon frame that has a depression.

I wouldn't worry about it. It is in a NON STRESS area.

Just make sure the paint is ok. If not, touch it up and you are good too go.

the seat tube isn't a huge deal. Touch up the paint, keep an eye on it, but it should be fine.
