| 8 speed RD w/9 speed cassette and shifters? | B2 Dec 2, 2002 1:52 PM | | I guess I wasn't very clear about what I was trying to accomplish. I would like to use a Shimano XT 8 speed rear derailleur in conjunction with a 9 speed cassette and Ultegra STI 9 speed shifters.
I don't believe I would have any problem adjusting the stops (although I haven't tried). I was just wondering if the 8 speed derailleur moves the same distance as the 9 speed given the same amount of cable travel?
Thanks,

The derailleur has no "stops" to adjust. I recently upgraded a friends bike with 9-speed shifters and cassette, the old "7-speed" derailleur worked with them flawlessly.

| perfectly clear | Rusty Coggs Dec 2, 2002 5:02 PM | | The answer was yes.EXCEPT, don't try using a pre 9 speed DA.the throw ratio of that derailer is different than the others. |
