noise from headset...gnailuh

I recently cleaned up my headset, it had quite a bid of dirt and shit. it is much smoother now. however, it makes a squeal noise when i turn the handlebar from left to right. this is most annoying when i'm climbing a hill.

what did i miss greasing? thanks.
Did you grease all the bearings?Silverback

A fingerful o' grease will usually quiet even worn-out bearings. Did you lube both the top and bottom bearings? Got the cages (if it's not loose balls) in right side up? (if it feels smooth, probably so). I put a HS together once with the upper retainer upside down. Man, that sucker was hard to adjust...
Also, are you sure the noise is coming from the headset? I rebuilt a bottom bracket one time and clicking bothered me for days. I finally realized it was coming from a loose seat clamp--the fact that I'd done the BB was unrelated.
Cables rubbing on frame? (nm)Kerry

I've put my ears against it... but I can't make out where it's coming from... is it common to have cable rubbing? against each other or against the frame?

Try having a friend hold the cables while you turn the handle bars. That may isolate the sound. I had cable noise by my headset from the cable rubbing in the housing. the fix was easy--just clean and grease the cables.

It might be too tight. Mine was squeaking after a rain, and loosening it cured it, and did not make it too loose.
