1) Does anyone know if a 1988 Bianchi Trofeo would have
English or Italian threads. I assume Italian for a made in Italy bike, but...you never know.
2) What is the physical difference in the two thread types? If I pull the bottom bracket, what do I look for to know which it is?
Is the Trofeo Asian or Italian made?Dave Hickey

My 1988 Bianchi Premio is Asian made and it has an English threaded BB. English and Italian BB's are different threads and diameters. The drive side cup on Italian BB's are also opposite threaded.

First measure the width of the frames bottom bracket shell. If its English thread it should be 68mm, Italian is 70mm. Because most bb are sealed these days shell width may not be a precise as it once was.

You probably know this but Italian threaded bb's are standard threading both sides. English bb's have a reverse threaded fixed cup (drive side).

Printed somewhere on the flange side (flat side) of one or both of the cups should be the following: 36 x 24T (this is italian thread) or BC 1.37 x 24 (this is English thread).

Hope this helps solve the problem.
