|I have a Giant TCR zero with the carbon fiber steerer tube. I bought this bike used, it's a 2001 model still in great shape, but recently I have been hearing a noise coming from the headset. It sounds like the carbon fiber steerer tube is stressing. No pops, clicks, or creeks, just a stress sound especially when I pull on the bars like for a climb or so. Is this normal for carbon fiber?|

|The sound you hear could come from many things, but it's not likely the CF steering tube. There is no such thing as a "stress sound" that can be attributed to the CF material.
It's more likely to be related to the bars, stem or the brake levers, particulary if you're pulling on the brake levers. Just tightening the clamp bolt of the brake lever may stop the noise.
It won't hurt to remove the stem and fork and inspect the steering tube for damage. Also check the headset bearings and races for signs of damage. If nothing looks unusual, regrease and reinstall the headset bearings, reinstall the fork and stem and properly adjust the headset bearings.

|because of all the recall hype associated with the carbon fiber steerer tube on this model, I forgot to make sure it's not the bar or stem flexing. thank you|| |
