I was wondering if anybody had any information on this rear deraileur at
They don't have a model number, but they say it's compatible with 7,8, and 9 speed triple setups.
I have a Giant OCR3 and am thinking about putting the minimum amount of 105 components on it to get rid of the Sora shifters. This won't be until some time late in next year, or if I find sales that can't be passed up. Since this would appearently work with both my current setup and my proposed future setup it seems like it would be something not to pass up.
Any information you guys/gals can shed on this or any advice and wisdom you may wish to impart is appreciated.
It will work, but you can find cheaper....TFerguson

I believe the 2002 silver 105 triple rear derailleur is RD-5500-GS and the 2003 black one is RD-5501-GS (GS is triple, SS is double). I also believe that they are functionally the same. Performance has the silver one for $5 less and even better deals can be found through for the 5500 or the 5501.
Thanks for the infobobwill

Please tell me if I do not understand you correctly.
I could get any 105 Triple derailleur and it should work on my current 8 speed setup.
If that's true then I'll just wait for the sora to wear out. ;-)

The difference between the double and triple rear derailleur is the length of the cage. The triple has a longer cage than double. To switch from double to triple rear derailleur may require a longer chain. The physical number of shifting indexes is controled by the levers.
don't forget to look the classifieds here and ebay...PeterRider

I bought a triple Ultegra drivetrain from the classifieds here late spring, and am very pleased with it.
