|What type of grease gun and type of grease should I get for regular bike maintenance, hubs, headsets and bottom brackets? Can I buy a regular automoitve minigrease gun and if so, what type of attachment would it need, to use it on the smaller bike parts? How about suggested types or brands of grease, lithium based only? thanks|

|The specific tip to your grease gun will depend a bit if your equipment has special fittings, but you'll find that a needle grease gun will be most applicable. There are many good grease choices out there. I've been using the Slick 50 One Grease and am very pleased with it, especially compared to Pedro's, which I think is too viscous. Lithium grease is less water resistant, but still works well if you repack at an appropriate frequency.|

I have found that Exus Blue grease is the most versatile grease around, I use it on all areas that require it, BB, h/set, hubs, s/pin, bottle cage bosses and so on, and it keeps the water out! All on Record componnets that is.
They also do a Yellow grease although the Blue is better in my opinion.
Both types are available with a needle grease gun as well as spare tubes when you run out.
Slick 50 isn't too bad, but have found the above to be more economical and easier to source.

|I got my Slick 50 grease at a Walmart, IIRC. Should be available most places that Slick 50 products are sold, which means most automotive supply locations.
Don't grease your Campy hubs through the oil hole. This will fill the space between the axle and hub shell with grease, resulting in a lot more hub friction. I know that Campy talks about lubing the hubs this way, but the hole was put there so that pros could oil their hubs for one day events like track races and time trials. Putting grease in there is convenient, but a poor way to lube hubs. These things are made to be easy to clean and rebuild, and that's the right way to do a Campy hub.
