Campy Record Triple upgrade..(3 posts)

Campy Record Triple upgrade..the Phantom
Nov 3, 2002 8:32 AM
Do I really need to replace the front and rear deraileurs with the long cage, 'triple' versions? I would like to use the short cage rear deraileur, 13-26 cassette and the 30-40-53 crankset plus the 111mm bottom bracket.

Not sure about the front, but a short cage RD works with a triple. Due to chain wrap limitations, some of the smaller cogs may not be usable when in the granny ring.

Ya, be careful with the short cage rear mech. I use medium cage with 53/39 and 13-29, it is nice not to be limited and have enough chain for any shift. Of course, keep the angles away from the extremes. No performance change. The medium cage will do everything, the short cage will do most things. Your choice!

Also, I believe the front RD is a must change unless someone has better experience.
