Ksyrium chain disc is rubbing(9 posts)

Ksyrium chain disc is rubbingtag
Nov 2, 2002 10:12 PM
I got a set of Mavic Ksyrium SSC SL wheels and built them up the way the pictures showed and the chain disc rubs on the spokes when the wheel is coasting, since the disc stops with the freewheel. Certainly this cannot be right. I put the chain disc on the freewheel, then the spacer, then an ultegra cassette. While I am fairly sure that I have the orientation correct, I cannot figure out a way to avoid the rubbing and it is rubbing the black off of the spokes. Have any of you out there seen or solved this? If possible, I would like to run with the chain disc on, since it is really small and unobtrusive.
Typically, don't chain discs fit on the spokes? (nm)gogene

Yeah, but this one is different. It fits on the splined freewheel and is splined itself, so that it turns, or does not, just like the cassette.
Try bending the chain disc ...Markus_B

it serves no purpose! if your r/d is adjusted properly, you don't have to worry about overshifting up into the spokes!
Agree - lose the geek disc (nm)Kerry

...if you remove the disc you will void Mavic's warranty. I would call Mavic and find out.

they would have made it a permanent part of the hub! Ridiculous! Lose the Bobo disc...

It's right up there with removing that tag off of your mattress!

I don't know a single person who uses that dorky disc -b/c it rubs! Mavic just does that to cover themselves for the dopes that can't adjust the hi-lo screws and run the rear der. into the spokes. Some how I've managed to cheat death and make it three years with out one on my Ksyriums....and then 25 years prior on all my other bikes.
