Besides the little carbon fiber top cap, what else is different between the chorus headset and the record headset?

The record headset has a black rubber ring on the bottom race. Behind the ring are several small grease ports for injecting grease.

but those grease ports aren't for grease, they are for oil. For the occasional use pre-race. Mere mortals like ourselves don't need to eliminate that extra 0.000001% friction. So don't use'em. From experience, I had to have my Record hub rebuilt becuase I injected grease into them.

We are talking headsets, not hubs. The headset ports are for grease. Oiling a headset won't make you any faster!

|Read the manual, page 17. Says they are GREASE ports and to use GREASE, in multiple languages. (just in case English is not your first)
Read the chain manual and it says to lubricate with chain oil.
So clearly the engineers know what they are taking about. They use "olio o grasso" for oil and "grasso nel foro" for grease, and the english translations match.
Despite your anectdotal story, my hubs have 15,000 miles on them, and I inject them with grease on a regular schedule, and the original bearings and races are perfect. So now we have 2 anectdotal stories. That and a dollar fifty will get us a Cliff bar.
The guys that designed and built this stuff say it can be injected with grease, so I will stick with their recommendations.
