Shimano HG and IG...Please help explainzmarke

Are Shimano HG and IG parts supposed to be used together?

I want to move my Shimano XT parts from my mountain frame to a cross frame because it will better suit my needs. All parts were purchased in October 1996 so they "may" be mixed between years. I have never needed to replace anything so I just want to make sure that it was initially set up correctly so that I do not have problems when I move it to a new bike. I know about BB and derailleur issues but the HG and IG thing does not make sense.

Crank: Shimano XT M-737 (5-arm spider 22/32/42)
The Crank has a sticker "IG Chain Only"

Rear hub: Shimano HB-737

Rear cassette: Shimano 11-28
The cassette has in "HG Hyperglide C"

Chain: Sachs MTB (M55 or M50)

Please help.
Thanks.

info there on ig and hg

", since the sprockets are thicker, Shimano says you shouldn't use H.G. chains on I.G. cassettes. Sachs chains are compatible with both types"
