Better than speedplay ?(5 posts)

Better than speedplay ?PeterRider

I just changed my old 'n cheap Look 206 pedals for speedplay x2, hoping those are better for the knees. I don't know about knees yet, but so far I'm not really impressed, and don't think they are worth the price difference... we'll see.

I wanted to know, is there any pedals that have a little bit of float along a rear->front axis (don't know how to call it, an axis parallel to the direction where the bike is going) ? ie allowing the foot to rotate a bit sideways ? With Look as well as speedplay, you have 2 degrees of rotation freedom. I would like to have some freedom in the last direction, like up to 5 degrees or so...

Thanks for any info,

Pierre

If your selling the Speedplay's cheap, I'll take them. Back to your question. Talk to some rider who ride Time road pedals. Speedplays float around a fixed axis. I know the whole cleat on Time mountain bike pedals float, I use them and love them. I think that Times road pedals do the same thing but never have rode Time Road pedals.

I find these pedals have front and rear float - a little "disturbing" at first, but once you are use to them, they feel great. Getting use ot the clip in/clip out also takes a while.

I swapped from LOOK to TIME as I had knee troubles, and found my knees really liked the TIME.

You can ride my pedals, to see if you like them - I live in Sydney Australia if that helps!
thanks for the offer...PeterRider

I hope I will have the occasion to go to Sydney next July, to present a paper at the congress of the international astronomical union !

I have both Speedplay and Time pedals. They both rotate a bit. The Time pedals also glide a bit from side to side. I am not aware of any pedal that floats from front to back and I'm really not sure that would be a good idea. For knee problems, the Speedplays would be good, but the Times would be better.
